Fluticasone + Salmeterol

Antiasthmatic

Uses of Fluticasone + Salmeterol

  • Fluticasone + Salmeterol is prescribed for the long-term management of asthma. It is a combination medicine that works as both an anti-inflammatory agent and a bronchodilator to help improve breathing.
  • It is also used for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but is not meant for sudden relief from bronchospasms.

Side effects of Fluticasone + Salmeterol

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Respiratory tract infection
  • Throat irritation
  • Oral candidiasis (fungal mouth infection)
  • Dysphonia (abnormal change in voice)
  • Musculoskeletal pain

How Fluticasone + Salmeterol works

  • Fluticasone is an inhaled corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation in the airways in asthma and COPD patients. By decreasing inflammation, it helps prevent exacerbations and symptoms of asthma and COPD.
  • Salmeterol is a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA). It works by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the muscles of the airways. Activating these receptors causes these muscles to relax, leading to bronchodilation and making breathing easier for individuals with COPD and asthma. It produces a more prolonged bronchodilation effect lasting at least 12 hours.
