Age and Dose Restrictions

• Cisplatin is mainly used for adults.

Contraindications

• Cisplatin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cisplatin or other platinum-containing compounds. It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment or severe bone marrow depression.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Cisplatin may interact with aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin, amikacin), loop diuretics (e.g., furosemide, torsemide), and anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Cisplatin can potentially lead to severe side effects such as kidney damage and hearing loss. If you suspect an overdose, consult your doctor immediately.

• If you miss a dose of Cisplatin, contact your doctor for further instructions. Do not double up on doses to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing Cisplatin. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of fluids can help manage nausea and vomiting.

• Resting and limiting physical activity can help manage fatigue.

• Wearing comfortable footwear and clothing can help manage numbness or tingling in hands and feet.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Cisplatin may cause side effects such as fatigue and dizziness. Therefore, driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided after taking Cisplatin.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Cisplatin is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation unless prescribed by the doctor after assessing the risks involved. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with pre-existing renal impairment should exercise caution when receiving Cisplatin. It is also necessary to monitor renal function closely during treatment with Cisplatin.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Add ginger and turmeric to meals, as they have anti-nausea properties and may help alleviate chemotherapy-induced nausea and inflammation.

• Avoid extremely cold foods or drinks, as some patients may develop cold sensitivity during Cisplatin treatment.

• Incorporate electrolyte-rich beverages, like coconut water or oral rehydration solutions, to balance the body's electrolytes, which can be affected by Cisplatin.

• Regular hearing checks are recommended as Cisplatin may cause hearing loss.
