• Cephalexin can be taken orally (capsules, tablets, oral suspension, and chewable tablet).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medication is suitable for adults and children who are at least one year old.

Contraindications

• Cephalexin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation, including Cephalexin itself and other cephalosporins.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Cephalexin can interact with probenecid (a uricosuric medicine), aminoglycosides (like gentamicin and amikacin), anticoagulants (such as warfarin and heparin) and antacids or H2-receptor antagonists (like ranitidine and famotidine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on Cephalexin may result in severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, epigastric distress, and bloody stools. If you suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

• If you miss a dose of Cephalexin, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve after discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of water can help alleviate common side effects such as nausea and diarrhoea.

• Taking this medication with food can reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Cephalexin may cause dizziness. If you experience this, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you are sure you can perform these activities safely.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Cephalexin is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, you should always consult your doctor before taking any medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with kidney disease should be cautious while taking Cephalexin, as the dosage may need to be adjusted.

• Individuals with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis, should also exercise caution when taking Cephalexin.
