Dosage Forms Available

• Alendronate / Alendronic Acid + Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is available in the form of a tablet.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medication is intended for use in adults of age above 18 years.

Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with low blood calcium levels (hypocalcaemia).

• It should not be used by individuals with severe kidney impairment or abnormalities of the oesophagus that delay emptying such as stricture or achalasia.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Alendronate / Alendronic Acid + Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) may interact with antacids (such as magnesium hydroxide and aluminium hydroxide) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (like aspirin and ibuprofen).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of this medication may result in symptoms such as nausea, heartburn, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, numbness or tingling around the mouth or in hands or feet. If you experience these symptoms after taking more than your prescribed dose, inform your doctor immediately.

• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drink plenty of fluids to help manage side effects like nausea and diarrhoea.

• Try taking the medication with a light snack or at bedtime to manage stomach upset.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This medication does not usually affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience dizziness or other side effects that may impair your alertness, avoid these activities until the symptoms subside.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is advised to consult your doctor before using this medicine during these periods.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with upper gastrointestinal problems such as Barrett's esophagus, dysphagia, or gastritis should use this medication with caution.

• The medication should be used cautiously in patients with kidney dysfunction.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Include foods rich in calcium and vitamin D in your diet to support bone health.

• Engage in weight-bearing exercises like walking or lifting weights to increase bone strength.
